Beyoncé Wants Fans To Get In Formation Against North Carolina’s Anti-LGBT Law
Unlike other big-name artists who have cancelled shows in North Carolina due to
House Bill 2,
Beyoncé
chose to perform in Raleigh on Tuesday night. But that doesn’t mean she
supports the controversial legislation, as she made clear in
a new statement posted on her website.

“North Carolina has
been drawing the attention of the masses for new legislation that blocks
cities and local governments from passing anti-discrimination measures
that could protect gay and transgender people,” the post begins. “As The
Formation World Tour makes its stop in the Tar Heel state in
the midst of such a controversial time, we think it is important for us
to bring attention to those who are committed to being good and carrying
on the message of equality in this core of controversy.”

The post continues by giving a rundown of how House Bill 2, aka the
“Bathroom Bill” (because it, among other things, prevents transgender
people from using the bathroom of their identified gender) came to be.
It also shines a light on the “many organizations doing the good work to
get this bill overturned,” including local LGBT group Equality NC.
Further championing the organization’s advocacy, Beyoncé also modeled
one of Equality NC’s shirts, which reads “Y’all Means All” in protest
of the bill.
